This beautiful wooden house from 1910 only an hour from Stockholm city centre, is located on the historic island of Adelsö. It was originally a shop to serve the hardworking farming community of Lindby but over the years, was eventually turned into a house that today accommodates a family of 6-8. There is also a small basic cabin that has a bunk bed and a single bed on the property. The house is close to a range of amenities incl. a shop, a beautiful old traditional café and bathing places

The space
For a more substantial supermarket, guests can take the ferry (no cost and every half hour) and then drive 20 mins to Ekerö. Pony riding is also possible in Sättra gård at the other end of the island http://www.xn--sttragrd-0zap.se/s%C3%A4ttramixen/stall-avalon-17537581 (ring Maud Donatello, mobile 073-594 2877). Buses run regularly from Bromma station in Stockholm

Ekerö V, Stockholms län, Sweden

Adelsö is also famous for its Stone Age, Viking and royal history and was once the seat of the King of Sweden https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adels%C3%B6 and is a short boat ride away from the historic island of Birka http://www.birkavikingastaden.se/en/ There are good walks to be done in the forest as well as a well signposted trail that takes you half way around the island. (The following link is in Swedish, but the map of the walk can be seen clearly) http://www.ekeroguiden.se/upplev/adelso-vandringsled

The island has a brewery http://adelsobryggeri.se/ and has had a poem written about it http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/08/22/adelso-by-justin-quinn
Less recently, it was also the place that inspired the famous Swedish painter, Hilma af Klimt https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2016/feb/21/hilma-af-klint-occult-spiritualism-abstract-serpentine-gallery
