ABOUT US!
HERMAN HARNECKER, is a retired architect, who came to live in COSTA RICA in 1971. He was born in Santiago, Chile, and studied architecture there; in 1970 he decided to leave the country. So after looking around the caribean, arrived to COSTA RICA and was able to work in architectural design of all tipe of buildings and homes. The CUSUCA is his last home, where he lives part time escaping from Chilean winter!

The space
This house is built underground, opening to a nice tropical garden in the lower part of the lot, away from the public street.
Most of its windows and openings are curved, so the diferent views in the inside or towards the outside are always very nice and interesting.
The grass covered concrete roof makes the house comfortable all day, and silent always! The big covered terrace can be used for breakfast, lunch, or happy hour at night!

The location of the CUSUCA is a rural location that has been populated through the last years by different people; the original familes of Guanacaste live mainly at the very entrance of the dirt road. That is where TELMA, the housekeeper lives! But all along several houses have been built, and many USA citizens live here. Rio Piedras is the nearest town; some groceries can be bought there and there are some restaurants where nice "tico-food" can be enjoyed!
