Betty's cottage is situated up a quiet country lane surrounded by open farmland and amazing views of the Wasdale fells. Lovingly converted from the former C of E school it is the perfect self catering hideaway for two. We are in the beautiful quieter Western Lake District, so please note we are NOT close to the tourist areas of Keswick, and Windermere, they are a good hour/half drive from here.

The space
The cosy lounge has two comfortable sofas, a large flat screen tv with SKY, Netflix and a DVD player with stunning views of the beautiful Wasdale Fells from the large window.

The kitchen is furnished with a table and chairs for dining. There is an electric four ring cooker, electric oven and microwave, an Illy coffee machine and an undercounter fridge, separate freezer and dishwasher. Again wonderful views from the large window.

A washing machine is located in the under stairs cupboard.

The shower room and toilet is on the ground floor fitted with a vanity sink unit.

Upstairs is the lovely double bedroom with fabulous views from the window and fitted wardrobes.

Outside there is a patio area with a table and sun loungers and guests can use our lovely garden with ample seating to admire the Wasdale Valley fells.

The cottage is part of The Old School and adjoins the owners property.

Where you’ll be

Cumbria, England, United Kingdom

Betty's cottage is located between Holmrook and Santon Bridge close to the River Irt. There are lots of paths across the fields around the cottage leading as far as the coast at Ravenglass, Muncaster Fell and Wasdale.

At the end of the lane is St Paul's church where you will find a 9th century Celtic cross in the graveyard and amazing views of Wasdale valley.

Wasdale is about 20 minutes by car and is the most mountainous of the Lake District valleys. Wastwater is the deepest lake in England, Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England and the view from here was voted "BRITAINS FAVOURITE" all close to Betty's cottage. Hiking and walking here is a truly memorable experience. When you stand at the head of the valley you will be surrounded by the massive peaks of Great Gable, Scafell, Lingmell etc there are no finer mountains to walk.

The miniature railway 'The L'all Ratty is located at Ravenglass and runs to the beautiful Eskdale Valley. There is a station stop within a 20 minute walking distance.

Also near Ravenglass is the amazing Muncaster Castle.

We are also close to the beaches of Drigg and Seascale.

PLEASE BE AWARE WE ARE A GOOD HOUR AND 15 MINUTES DRIVE FROM KESWICK, WINDERMERE AND AMBLESIDE.

THE NEAREST PUB IS A 20 MINUTE WALK FROM BETTYS, A CAR IS ESSENTIAL.

I have worked in the hospitality industry for 25+ years owning and running small hotels and pubs. For the past 4 years we have turned our lovely home into a B and B and holiday cottage. I love to walk my gorgeous black lab Bruce on the fells around our home. I really enjoy looking after my lovely guests. I also love spending time with my lovely husband John, my sister Nancy and friends when I can. I love to travel to new places. Family and friends are the world to me. My favourite holiday destination is Kalkan in Turkey where John and I got married. We spend 3 weeks there every year and love it. I adore my gorgeous dog Bruce, who rules the roost in our house along with our two cats Louis and Lucy. I am very lucky to live in the beautiful Western Lake District in this lovely home.
