Whether you want to relax in the hot tub with a glass of wine, cwtch up (Welsh for cuddle up) with a book, explore the spectacular Cambrian Mountain scenery, walk the Cardigan Bay coastal path or enjoy wildlife and nature, our cottage is the ideal, peaceful place to escape to and breathe. And there are some great places to eat around here!

Near the beautiful towns of Aberaeron, Tregaron, Lampeter, and Aberystwyth, and with a great pub within easy walking distance, you will go home recharged

The space
Cwtch Cottage has its own separate, secure, and private entrance, as an attached but independent cottage next door to our own house. That means that we are on hand if you need help, but will leave you totally in peace otherwise!

Totally self-contained and set in 7 acres of fields including a one-acre natural spring-fed lake and an additional pond teeming with wildlife, depending on the time of year, you will see red kites and buzzards overhead, several species of ducks, greylags, and Canada geese, and our regular visitors, the heron, and the occasional cormorant. There is such low light pollution that you will almost certainly be treated to a stunning night sky, bright stars, and breathtaking views of the Milky Way.

Cwtch Cottage has its own all-year spa hot tub for exclusive use by cottage guests. It is screened off to ensure your privacy while at the same time allowing you to enjoy stunning views of the lake to the front, the hills and mountains to the side views over extensive country to the rear and the Milky Way and stars at night.

There is also a picnic table to the front of the cottage with views over the lake and a bench to the side.

You are welcome to take a walk around the property, try your hand at fishing as our guests, or just enjoy some undisturbed peace and quiet to help you recharge.

The cottage is tastefully decorated and has broadband, a 42" TV with FreeView, a Blueray DVD player with DVDs, and a selection of books and magazines for you to enjoy.

The kitchen is also very well equipped with gas hob/grill/oven, microwave, and dishwasher and has both a small fridge and large fridge/freezer. There is ample cutlery, crockery, glassware, pots, pans, and utensils.

A welcome tea tray consisting of Earl Grey and English breakfast teas, green tea and peppermint tea, coffee, and hot chocolate together with a choice of biscuits will be ready waiting for you when you arrive.

If you need to do some washing, the washer/drier makes life easier and there is an ironing board and decent iron.

There is a shower room with a shower, WC and washbasin. Please note this is downstairs.

Where you’ll be

Penuwch, Wales, United Kingdom

Cwtch Cottage is located in one of the safest counties in the UK, Ceredigion, within easy reach of mountains and coast.

Our nearest neighbour is several hundred yards in each direction so peace is guaranteed.

If you are a foodie, there's the Hungry Ram less than a mile away which does great food and welcomes well-behaved dogs (mention at time of booking which is advised as it is very popular). Please note it is open Thursday - Saturday evenings and for Sunday lunch (with Wednesday evening opening usually available during the summer months).

One of Wales' top pubs, the Talbot in Tregaron, whose chef trained with Pierre Marco White, is only a short drive away.
There are numerous other excellent restaurants in Aberaeron, recently recognised as one of the best places to be in the UK. Notable places to eat and drink include The Cellar/Y Seler, great for good food including tapas, while the Harbourmaster is right next door to the harbour and offers nationally recognized high-quality epicurian delights icluding seafood! In addition, The Hive offers great seafood, and ribs, to go with its renown honey ice cream by day and is a bar, with regular live music by night.

In Aberystywth, we recommend Medina, Mediterranean Ottolenghi style food, Little Italy, our local Italian, Baravin, a nice winebar with food looking out to sea, and Light of Asia for great Indian dine in and takeaway cuisine. Aberystwyth also boasts the 2022 Newcomer Michelin Star winner SY23 and its companion restuarant, Y Sgwar. We are also within an hour of Ynyshir Hall if two star Michelin cuisine is your thing.

If you fancy a quiet night in, there is a good Chinese takeaway, and fish and chip/kebab shop fifteen minutes away, and others within 20 minutes.

Equestrian lovers will find themselves in the heart of Welsh cob country and easy reach of some of the world's top studs who welcome visitors by arrangement.

For lovers of arts and crafts, there is an active summer arts trail as well as regular fairs and exhibitions. Perhaps a view from Cwtch Cottage could provide the inspiration for your next painting, drawing, or photograph!

Whatever you enjoy, Cwtch Cottage has a well-equipped website offering information and links to a wide range of different venues to visit and activities to try if you want to go off exploring.

Hi there
Thanks for wanting to find out more about Cwtch Cottage and Ty Calon and the people behind both places.

We are in Ceredigion/Cardiganshire, a beautiful part of West Wales. Cwtch Cottage is next door, but independent, to where I live with my husband, Rhys. Ty Calon, our luxury shepherd's hut is in its own private field behind our back garden.

Rhys has retired and I run my own career coaching and training company, working mostly online with clients all over the place.

So help during your stay is on hand if you need it, but if you just want to pull up the metaphorical drawbridge and escape from the world, you can do just that!

My husband and I are both foodies and love eating and cooking a wide range of foods, particularly Chinese, Thai, Indian and French cuisine (my favourite is Peking Duck and pancakes). We enjoy going out for the odd meal from time to time accompanied by something convivial to drink!

We are also frequent visitors to our local Arts Centre in Aberystywth where we enjoy watching comedians of national repute in the main. And if we're not doing that then we are watching rugby, taking photos or having a swim in the pool at our local golf club.

We are lucky enough to have a big lake in front of the house, so during the week when I am not working or need a fresh perspective, you'll find me having a wander outside.

If I am not there, then I am likely to have my head stuck in some usually nonfiction book to do with work. I also love reading Dan Brown and Dick Francis type novels as great page turners.

I also love singing in my local choir, or listening to music by artists such as Annie Lennox, Tom Jones, George Ezra, Gregory Porter, Bob Marley, T-Rex or a bit of chilled out jazz. (Don’t worry about any possible noise, I love my Beats headphones for uninterrupted listening!).

You will also find me watching The Voice, The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Casualty, Holby City, Dragon's Den and the Apprentice (but definitely not the version with Donald Trump in it!!).

As far as movies are concerned, give me Slumdog Millionnaire, or Die Hard type films or anything else with Julie Walters, Dev Patel, Judy Dench, Denzil Washington, Robin Williams, or Morgan Freeman in them every time.

We have family and friends from different parts of the UK to stay from time to time too.

If you decide to come and stay, as well as meeting us, you will also meet our aging Border Collie with three legs (long story) and two mini dachshunds, and the cat.

Do get in touch if you need any further information, and we hope to be able to welcome you to this very special part of the world one day.

Carpe Diem and best wishes
