Welcome to our bungalow (with attached bathroom) right at the banks of the mighty Mekong River! We will help you with all of your questions and love to show you around in our village and we can also organize tours, a cooking class and onward transport. Our island is very traditional and there are no roads, only paths and little villages.

If you want a taste of local Lao life on an island in the Mekong: welcome us! We're on Don Som (island), Si Phan Don (4000 Islands) in the far south of Laos!

The space
Our Lao style bungalow is built on poles and has one room, an attached bathroom and a balcony. We have a garden in which you can relax and we have some hammocks as well (two on your private balcony).

We have a bed for two persons with a big mattress. There is a wooden table, mirror, bench and chair as well.

The bathroom (attached to the bungalow) has a sink, mirror, toilet (western style toilet) and a shower (cold water for now). We provide soap, shampoo and towels.

Where you’ll be

Champasak Province, Laos

Our village has about 150 (mainly wooden traditional Lao) houses. It is a traditional Lao village and most people are farmers and fishermen. If you're interested in learning and seeing Lao culture (and you are also welcome to visit the temple if you like) this might be a good place for you to be close to the locals of our place. People like music here and sometimes the government is using speakers to 'inform' people. Unfortunately we can't control that.

The village comes with everything that is normal in many Lao villages: children (a lot of them), staring people, partying people, shy people, cows, buffaloes, chickens, ducks, insects (yes, some parts of the year a lot of them), houses, bicycles and motorbikes (the paths are small and cars can't really get around on the island), a school, a temple, boats on the river etc. etc.

My name is Sander and my wife's name is Tanoi. I was born in the Netherlands and Tanoi in Laos. We've met several years ago in a small village were Tanoi is a teacher on a secondary school.

We like telling people more about our area and Lao culture and food.

My favorite travel destinations are New Zealand, Mongolia and Laos. Tanoi really liked her visit to the Netherlands in 2014.

We will be there to work in the garden and to help with questions etc. We are happy to tell you many things about Lao customs and culture but will also leave you 'alone' to enjoy the sounds of the river, a book or anything else :-)
