Where you’ll be

Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Attended by workers, intellectuals and members of alternative movements and counterculture, the atmosphere of the neighborhood is effervescent and diverse. Cafés, bookstores, universities, schools, chapels, synagogues and cultural spaces are located in or around it, such as the Italian Society of RS, the Andalusian Tablado, and the Western Bar, a traditional nightclub and cultural space created in 1980 that promotes an intense schedule of concerts, parties, plays and literary soirees. Another noteworthy space is the Park Snack Bar, a meeting place for bohemians, artists and intellectuals of the city.
Some traditions are still maintained in the neighborhood, such as two delicatessens specializing in Kasher products and products for typical Jewish cuisine, Sabra (with more sophisticated products) and Lechaim (with a wider variety of convenience products). However, traditional spaces were destroyed by real estate speculation such as the Baltimore Cinema, which in 2004 was demolished to a construction site. This same demolition also hit Bar João, which was next to the Baltimore Cinema and which had been immortalized in the song "Deu Para ti", a hit by Kleiton and Kledir. Besides Kleiton and Kledir, the neighborhood has already been sung by musicians such as Nei Lisboa, in his song "Berilm, Bom Fim", and Vitor Ramil in "Ramilonga". (Wikipedia font)
