NB: Due to Covid-19, we are leaving 48 hours before each booking.

If the dates you would like to book are not available on the calendar, don't despair, send us a quick message and we'll see what we can do!
Although we are currently offering 7 night stays, we may be able to accommodate you for three nights or more dependent on bookings etc, so please send a message and we will see what we can do.

Please be aware that due to Covid-19 certain pubs/restaurants will have restricted seating, outdoor seating etc and reservations are necessary.

The local pub is closed from October to April! However, there are plenty of other pubs in the vicinity but NOT within walking distance.

Built on the footprint of a fisherman's cottage, attention to detail has resulted in a unique large and comfortable home with a dash of quirkiness! The location of the house is fabulous, with unhindered views across the bay.. A few steps away and you are on the small sandy beach with rock pools and the little harbour dating from the 1830's built for the turf boats.

The lounge has unhindered views across the bay, the ceilings of the lounge and kitchen are clad with wood to the eaves, making you think that you're under an upturned boat! The floors are ancient slate flags, a large open fire stove creates a cosy ambience. There is a 'starter supply' of logs and turf on either side of the fireplace. Guests can purchase more logs/turf locally.

There are two seating areas in the lounge. The one by the fire offers a wonderful retreat of warmth & comfort in front of a roaring fire, put your feet up and relax with a beverage, have a game of backgammon or simply put the world to rights! There are two vintage leather club chairs and a two seater sofa.

The seating area by the bay window has fabulous views of the river Shannon and across to Kerry. Two large sofas, two armchairs and two rocking chairs ensure plenty of favourite spots.

In the middle of the lounge is a dining table for eight persons.

The lounge has a garret - a traditional 'attic room' that in days gone by, the spinster aunt or bachelor uncle would have used! It gives an interesting aspect to the lounge, unfortunately, access to the garret is temporarily restricted to guests.

With a music system throughout the lounge and kitchen and no neighbours - you can turn the volume up! The system has a facility for smartphones, iPhones etc to play your own music. Be sure to bring your own cables - ours seem to go on walkabout occasionally!

The kitchen is spacious with 2 x two seater sofas and a breakfast table for six. It has a high pitched ceiling with fisherman lantern lights. The kitchen is well equipped for home cooking and a dishwasher makes light work of the clearing up! The flag floor - is perfect for dancing!

Both bedrooms have en-suite (wet room) shower, hand basin and toilet.

The porch is perfect to catch the sun with outside dining table and chairs. The garden is purposely left wild with meadow flowers, Yellow Flags, Marshallow trees, Monbretia, Wild Fuschia and other native plants & flowers including the 'rogue' weeds! Note to any enthusiastic gardeners - due to the proximity to the water and the expanse of garden, its impossible to have a manicured garden, it's purposely left wild.

Bath robes, towels, toiletries, beverages include tea and coffee. The welcome pack consists of soda bread, scones, milk and butter. If you have any dietary requirements i.e. soy milk, gluten free, vegan etc.. please let us know before you arrive to ensure your welcome pack is satisfactory.

There's a good supply of books, Backgammon, Scrabble, playing cards etc., nothing nicer than sitting in front of a turf fire curled up with a good book, hot chocolate or glass of wine.

Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special...

In Ireland the word is CLUTHAR! And we have plenty of Cluthar!!

Where you’ll be

Loop Head, County Clare, Ireland

Loop Head is on the Wild Atlantic Way and won the Irish Times title, 'The Best Place to Holiday' in 2013. Loop Head features unspoilt landscapes, spectacular cliffs and extraordinary beauty. Eco tourism and sustainability are key factors and the community is small and friendly.

One pub within 150 mtrs from the house which serves great homemade food & have occasional live music. Another pub is located a further 50 mtrs away on the bay.

You can arrange a fishing trip from the pier - only steps away from the house!

Children's playground is a short walk from the house and beside it is a 'memorial garden' which gives the history of our small community.

Loop Head Lighthouse well worth a visit. On your left sits the Shannon and your right is the Atlantic. Straight ahead is America!

Star Wars was filmed on location here and a special treat is if on a clear night you head up there - armed with hot chocolate and warm clothes - the stars are glorious!

The Bridges of Ross - spectacular natural feature and not too far to walk.

The Gallery is on the Lighthouse Rd and has a lovely selection of Irish art and gifts. A warm welcome is always guaranteed by Liz and Ailish, who also provide tourist information. Due to Covid this is by appointment only.

The Long Dock, Carrigaholt is 8km away and has been in the Top 100 Best Pubs in Ireland for food for the past few years.

Dolphin Watch, Carrigaholt - experienced marine staff take you out and they can usually guarantee a sighting.

Seaweed Baths and seaweed wraps are in Kilkee and they also have a beauty salon

Kilkee Bay offers surfing/kayaking lessons and includes rental of wet suits. A day at the seaside can be an adventure if you go to visit the Pollock Holes in Kilkee. These are large rock pools and some are so big that you can swim in them.

We love the wildness of West Clare and being so close to the sea.

Our home is very cosy - we do enjoy our creature comforts. Whether to sit by a blazing fire with friends, or quietly watch the world go by and contemplate the day ahead as the mighty Shannon ebbs and flows. Outdoors we enjoy blustery walks that clear the cobwebs away! In the summer we have perfect seas and clear skies.

As hosts we really work hard to make sure that your stay will be one of making memories and we hope that you will return. In our home, we have added lots of extras that will enhance your stay from bathrobes to toiletries and herbal teas to seaweed bites! A local pub within 100mtrs of the house ensures liquid refreshment and home cooked food and the occasional night of live music, highly recommend their scampi and chips!

All the following activities are things we participate in and are enthralled by the changes in the year ets. Birdwatchers delight, deep sea fishing, dolphin watch, surfing, seashore walks, hedgerow walks, seaweed baths, live music, luxury spa & golf at international links course, cycling/walking or driving the Wild Atlantic Way. Close enough for a day outing to The Burren & The Cliffs of Moher.

It says here - Describe Yourself, I think telling you about the area and our home describes everything about us and how we like to live.
