The Secret Panel room overlooks a tidal marsh and creek in a 1699 house. It's an authentic experience of old Cape Cod with heirlooms and art. Five-minute walk to the village shops, restaurants, mill, and Sandwich Glass Museum. A 20-minute walk to the beach, canal, more restaurants, and museums. Open the secret panel to the Revolutionary War escape route. Sit by 1749 paneling and fireplace. Guests eat out for all meals or bring them back. Some stay two months, some a week. No cleaning fee.

The space
You have complete privacy with your own private entrance. I will introduce the room to you unless you would rather see no one, in which case, tell me, and I will tell you how to let yourself in when you book. I am usually around and can be reached by text. The bathroom is all yours, en suite, with a full tub, shampoo, soap, and conditioner. There is a seating area in front of the fireplace, which has candles in it, beside a Revolutionary War escape route that led from the bedroom to the creek, once a river. There are books in the room with chapters or entries about the house. Your room is the master bedroom. It's in the 1749 front of the house. The back half of the house was built in 1699, and there is the foundation of a mysterious older Cape half house in the cellar. Sandwich is half way between Boston and Provincetown.

Where you’ll be

Sandwich, Massachusetts, United States

We are in the historic district and very close to downtown, but in a verdant area overlooking a tidal marsh. Many of the houses you walk past in the village were built in the 1600's. We love all of the nearby restaurants. They range from casual to fancy. No one will turn you away if you are dressed casually, because we're a vacation spot. It's very easy to walk to the downtown historic spots: 1834 Town Hall, 1653 grist mill, 1675 Hoxie House, Sandwich Glass Museum, and a quick drive (or long walk) to Heritage Museums and Gardens (antique cars, Americana, and a rotating gallery in acres of gorgeous gardens), the beach, the boardwalk, the canal, the Canal Museum. Take your car to the 1640 Wing Fort house, 1680 Nye Homestead, and Green Brier Nature Center and Jam Shop. There's plenty to do in Sandwich, and we are half way between Boston and the tip of the Cape, Provincetown, and we are 25 minutes from downtown Plymouth.

I am a children's book author and illustrator. I love visiting elementary schools and giving writers workshops or presenting how a book is created. My husband and I enjoy traveling and exploring new places. What I love about meeting the travelers and vacationers on Cape Cod is that they are having a wonderful, happy time.
