My husband and I have lived in the area all our life and have been involved in the historic preservation of downtown Farmington. The Colonel Robert’s House is Clinton’s childhood home and has remained in the family since. The home has been completely restored with an addition of a new kitchen/great room downstairs and new master bedroom/bathroom upstairs. Much of the original woodwork and maple flooring remains. I am a former Mayor of Farmington and have been involved in City functions since 1967 when we returned home from college and purchased the historic “Taylor House” a block down the street. A drive down West Columbia Street gives you a sense of stepping back in time to a glimpse of beautifully restored Civil War Homes and lovely bungalows. Farmington offers many great parks like Engler Park and numerous small parks and special events like Country Days and Blues and Brews. Main attractions are the Waterpark and Civic Center., movie theater, numerous grocers, shopping malls and many small shops and restaurants in the historic downtown. If you are a history buff, you are in the right place with St. Genevieve, Ironton and Arcadia Valley, Caledonia and many more small towns home to state historic sites. If you are an adventurer, you will find many state parks with great hiking, fishing, kayaking and more, within close proximity. To mention a few, Elephant Rocks, Johnson Shut ins, Pickle Springs and Hawn State Park offer it all! Missouri’s newest wine region is a short drive from town and is an adventure in itself with beautiful vineyards and great restaurants. Whatever you do, a drive through the lovely rolling hills of this area is a must! Whether it’s pleasure or business, you will find “The Colonel Robert’s House” a comfortably beautiful place to stay and great “base” to explore many Missouri attractions.
