The space
Treis Ekklisies is a beautiful remote hideaway unpolluted from mass tourism, yet with its own special characteristics. Make sure you read thoroughly the next sections especially about the location where all these features are described in detail. It is important to get into the place's atmosphere & know exactly what to expect and what not.

OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE (The real star)
>Fully covered, a lot more surface than indoor. Fits perfectly with all year round hot climate where indoor space is rather auxilliarly serving only cooking and sleeping.
>Main veranda on the ground floor taking up the whole cottage length. Covered with chestnut tree log pergola and bamboo panels. Built-in super-long deep sofa, perfect for afternoon naps or hot summer night sleeping under the starry sky. More than enough room for a 6 chair dinning table.
>Upper veranda above the indoor space taking up all of its footprint. Accessible from the main veranda through staircase. Also covered the same way as the main ground floor veranda but the sea view from there is absolutely breathtaking. The best place to enjoy morning coffee, swing on the hammock swing, drink afternoon aperitifs or listen to the sound of the sea amidst the quiet night.

Treis Ekklisies, Crete, Greece

Treis Ekklisies is a village where most homes are summer houses of locals from the neighboring villages. It is mostly populated in the summer season and even then mainly on the weekends due to most inhabitants' engagement with grapevine and vegetable cultivation which are both very demanding during summer months. Few tourists visit here (so far), thus making it the perfect destination for relaxation, stress-detox, beach living, hiking and nature site seeing.
In our neighborhood - as in everywhere in Treis Ekklisies - houses are small & detached, very close, often touching each other. So in (the relatively rare) case that neighbors are in, mutual respect must be shown for each other's comfort, especially in the late noon-early afternoon hours. 3 pm to 5 pm in Greece are hours of "common quietness" by the law.
Most people are friendly and say "good morning" & "good afternoon" to everyone regardless they have met them or not.
Also, since most know each other, they prefer to populate the main beach in front of the village to swim and socialize. That leaves the adjacent more beautiful beaches completely empty, almost private for anyone that doesn't mind walking 5 to 20 minutes!
In most of south Crete long mountain ranges isolate the inland from the south sea (the "Libyan Sea"). "Asterousia" mountain range is playing this role in our case. Asterousia mountains have a very special distinct energy that can be felt even by people most insensitive to such things. This is so much so that they're considered Crete's holly mountains. One can find churches and monasteries in every isolated beach, hilltop or gorge due to the landscape's steepness that oozes an almost sacred aura.

We're a couple of an architect and an interior designer in our late 30's/early 40's. We love Crete especially its less known southern side where all kind of magic, unexpected things can happen.

We bought this small home 10 years ago from a retired school teacher who built it with his own hands. Anna spent all of her childhood summers in this village, so having our own little place there was a dream come true.

We renovated it with love. Its living spaces more than doubled with the addition of two covered pergolas (patios) thus enhancing the traditional Cretan outdoor living experience to the max.

We were extremely careful not to deviate from the spartan simplicity imposed by the landscape, a simplicity that permeates all Cretan folk architecture through time.

We just recently decided to become hosts. We do not consider hosting as a new job. Additional income is welcome but not important enough as a sole reason to share our home with people we do not know. We thought it might be a good idea to let more people discover the unique experience of the place, especially since our schedule doesn't allow us to live there as much as we would like.

We would like to have guests (with the original meaning of the term), not clients. We're not fond of being too extrovert with guests. We will be gladly available to help and inform but we cannot be concierges. We consider hosting as giving our home to a couple of considerate close friends to spent some days over and relax. We would really like hosting to be a pleasant experience for us so we can keep on with the same eager as we started!

Best thing about our cottage is its location where one can detach oneself from the rest of the world.

However you can feel free to call or mail us for whatever you need any time of day and we will be more than pleased to be of help. We live 45' away from the village but there will be no problem that we cannot take care of.
