Water view room in Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard. Aquinnah is a rural area far from the crowds of "down Island". Price varies depending on month $125. - $190.
The 10 x 10 foot room has an ocean view and a tree house like feel. It is separate from the main house where we live with our 15 year old son. There is a small half bathroom that is shared with a guest room below. We only use the OUTDOOR shower from May through Columbus Day so please make sure you are comfortable with that.

The space
Aquinnah is "up Island" and away from the crowds. The room feels very secluded. There are windows on two sides of the room with one side facing the ocean. All the windows have curtains. The house is a modern custom built home that centers around the deck.
Pricing varies depending on month, weekly rates are available. The room is in the upper level of a guest tower across the deck from the main house. The room has a queen sized platform bed that is raised, so that you can see the view. There is a small half bath that is shared with a guest room below, the entrance to the bathroom is on the deck. There is a shared OUTDOOR shower, we do not use our indoor shower in the summer season (approximately May through Indigenous People's Day). There is wireless internet but no tv in the room. Cell service is spotty, AT&T has the best service.
It is very private. Guests are welcome to use the table and chairs and the sofa on the deck. There is also a table and chairs on the top of the tower for the exclusive use of the guests. We live across the deck in the main house with our 15 year old son. Both my husband and I work full time during the week, so we are not always there.
Aquinnah is a rural part of Martha's Vineyard. 35 minutes from the ferry in Vineyard Haven and the airport in Edgartown. It is home to the Wampanoag Tribe and known for its beautiful clay cliffs and beaches. There is public transportation by bus once an hour during the summer and great biking and trails but a car is best in this area. It's hilly and remote.
There is a market at the cliffs- The Gay Head Store about a 2 minute drive from us open 7 am to 7 pm. and another market 10 minutes away, The Chilmark Store open mid May through the beginning of October and a grocery store 30 minutes away. The only liquor stores are in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. The closest one is MV Wine and Spirits near the airport. Good restaurants in the area, kayak/canoe rentals available and paddle boarding, surfing, sailing etc.
Great beaches close by, 5 minute drive or 15 minute bike ride.

Where you’ll be

Aquinnah, Massachusetts, United States

Very peaceful in the summer, far from the crowds and very close to the natural beauty of the island.
We are 20 miles from the more bustling towns of Vineyard Haven, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. There is a small market 10 minutes from our house open mid May- beginning of October. The only liquor stores are in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. The closest one is MV Wine and Spirits near the airport in Edgartown. The best grocery stores are Cronig's in Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury and Stop and Shop in Vineyard Haven and Edgartown.
If you want peace and quiet This is your place, if you want towns and shopping and nightlife it's not. There are many great things in our town, like the amazing beaches, the shops at the Cliffs and the Orange Peel Bakery down the road that holds a community pizza night on Wednesdays from 5-8pm. Lots of good biking and hiking trails in the area as well.
Most business in Aquinnah and Chilmark are seasonal, they open on or just before Memorial Day and by Columbus Day all restaurants and most other businesses are closed. We are a five minute drive from the Cliffs where there are restaurants and shopping. The Aquinnah Shop (sit down) is great for breakfast and sunset dinners. The Orange Peel Cafe and Cliffhangers have good take-out and there are picnic tables near by. The Outermost Inn is not far from the Cliffs and offers a 3 course Price fixe menu with a great view.
Other good places are the Chilmark Tavern (10 minute drive) in Chilmark and Menemsha which has many take out places and is a great sunset watching spot.
You can park your car in the pay lot at the Cliffs and spend the day at the beach. There is public parking at Lobsterville Beach (about a 10 minute drive). You can bike to any of the beaches in about 15-20 minutes as well. There is a bike ferry that runs weekends in the shoulder season and then every day in July and August, that takes you from West Basin in Aquinnah to Menemsha in Chilmark. You don't need to have a bike to take it, you can just walk on. It's a great way to see Menemsha without a car.

I love meeting new people and hearing about where they are from and what they do and I love telling them about our beautiful island and making sure they find what they are looking for on Martha's Vineyard.

During your stay

Due to the pandemic we will interact with guests outside on the deck. We are all fully vaccinated. We are also not permitting guests into the main house (I'm happy to try and get you something you need, just ask).
I try to be here to greet each guest but sometimes with our busy schedules that is not possible. I will always contact the guest the day before arrival to find out ETA and if they have questions. We are frequently out at night in the summer. We are usually around in the morning to answer any questions guests might have. Most guests choose this spot because of the beauty and solitude and we do our best to respect their privacy.
