Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Perfect for those on-the-go or planning to rest in bed & read; this small studio,
has cuteness, w/amenities, full-size bed, coffee maker/small refrigerator/small microwave, closet with hangers and small bureau, tiled bathroom, books, hardwood floors, fan and ductless air/heat. Petite and best for one person but two if they love to snuggle. Historic area with shopping/dining/dancing, theaters, comedy club, markets, opera, free local transportation, Bayfront marina, tiki bar+more!

The space
The unit is decorated beautifully with attention to detail. It is a cozy studio apartment that is perfect for getting rest or staying in to read a book. It is super clean and made to feel like home with amenities needed to stay a night, week or month. The location is safe in the southern area of downtown, nestled between high-end neighborhoods Laurel Park, Palm Avenue and Hudson Bayou. Great restaurants, shopping, spas, theaters, markets all in neighborhood and just blocks away from Bayfront Marina, boating, parks, performance theaters, comedy club, Main Street and other amenities such as transportation, government and parks. The building has 8 vacation rentals and every unit is a different size and uniquely different. Enjoy your stay in the Starfish Studio.

Where you’ll be

Sarasota, Florida, United States

This is the nicest and safest mixed-use neighborhood in the city, historic buildings, south of Main Street and nestled between historic high-end residential Palm Avenue and Laurel Park, and close to the Bayfront Marina & Park, tiki bar, boat, jet ski and paddle board rentals. We are centrally located between Siesta Key and Lido Beaches.

There are a plethora of daytime amenities and evening activities within walking distance. Many great restaurants; I would recommend the ones in Burns Square such as Fresh Start (bfast/lunch), The Fountain (coffee,lunch/dinner) and Burns Court Cafe (bfast/lunch/dinner) and Owen's Fish Camp (dinner). Then there are other favorites Boca, State Street Eatery, Indigenous, Cafe Epicure, Selva, Blue Rooster - to name a few downtown.

Shopping, fashion, art galleries, and spas are super close by as well as Whole Foods and Publix supermarkets. Saturday mornings there is a wonderful Farmer's Market on Lemon Avenue (three blocks to the north).

There is an independent movie theater across the street called the Burns Court Cinema; Hollywood 20 theater is just 6 blocks away. Sarasota Opera, Sarasota Orchestra, Sarasota Ballet, McCurdy's Comedy Club and several other performance theaters - Van Wezel, Florida Studio Theater, Improve Theater, West Coast Black Theater, and Urbanite Theater - to name a few, are in close walking distance.

There is a free IRide system downtown that is just a phone call or hail ride away. They run from 11AM - 11PM and will pick you up and drop you off anyplace in the downtown core. There is a county wide bus system SCAT and the terminal is only 4 blocks away on Lemon Avenue. In addition, Uber and Lyft are very active in the area. There is also a bike rental just a few doors south on S. Orange Avenue.

A visitor welcome center is close by at the Chamber of Commerce on Fruiteville Road, close by. They have schedules of the area businesses, shows, attractions, and events.

Parking is fairly easy. There is 24/7 FREE parking on Oak Street that passes to the east and west in front of the building. There is free overnight parking in the Women's Exchange parking lot across the street on the Orange Avenue side of the building - they are closed 4PM - 9AM. There is free parking at the Eye Doctor office at the corner of Orange & Oak Street Friday - Sunday. On-street around the building and downtown is free overnight and free for 3 hours during the day from 9AM-6PM and there are lots of public parking lots.

Sarasota is a beautiful area with lots of culture and great things to do and see. We know you will enjoy your stay and please let me know if you have any other questions. See you soon!

I moved to sunny Sarasota from Massachusetts in 1982 and purchased this historic property in 1986. My two (now adult) sons where raised on the property so it is home. I am passionate about historic preservation and helping improve the Burns Square area of downtown. I manage all twelve suites that are on the second and third floors above businesses with a small staff that includes Carol who has been with me for 31 years, Luz who has been with us for 6 years. I pay higher than a living wage because we are a team in the Success of the Burns Square Historic Hotel guest experience. In 2007, I founded the Sarasota Chalk Festival, a 501c3 not-for-profit 100% volunteer global community organization. We bring together the most renowned pavement artists from around the world every year to use chalk as a medium to create oversized traditional pavement paintings and 3D illusions on the road surface. It is magical to watch this museum in motion. I support sustainability, eating well and overall mental and physical health. I enjoy being in nature, good food, architecture, performing and visual arts, hiking, yoga, sailing, mountain climbing, racing cars, exploring, and have traveled the world - but love Sarasota!
