C’est La Vie is its own little oasis on the Trouya Pointe peninsula, where privacy, peace and tranquility are only interrupted by bird songs and crashing of waves. Start each day on the upper veranda where a lounge set and breakfast table give you a perfect vantage points for your eyes to wander from ornate curved eaves to carved hardwood railings to the endless green landscape. C’est La Vie contains five of St. Lucia’s most exquisitely designed bedrooms, each named after a local tree and clad with designer fabrics, soft linens and exotic, tasteful furnishings. Three bedrooms are in the main home, all with a private veranda, en-suite bathrooms, including walk-in shower and air conditioning. A fourth room is found in the separate cottage also with en-suite bathroom, private veranda and a study. The final room is in a comfortably furnished apartment at pool level. Its en-suite houses a handmade soak tub. A short pathway leads from C'est la Vie to a tranquil, secluded cove from which snorkelers may search for reef fish or lobster and strong swimmers may circumnavigate the peninsula and find themselves in another quiet cove with a beautiful sandy beach. A garden filled with tropical trees and flowers is a private setting in which to enjoy expansive terraces overlooking the sea, an outdoor bar and an infinity pool that stretches under a waterfall into a stone cave. Architect Lane Pettigrew laid out the villa as a series of pavilions linked by verandas, taking advantage of the sunny weather and balmy temperatures. The hand-chipped stone exterior walls were inspired by the forts that originally dotted the island, while wooden railings and jalousie shutters are hallmarks of Caribbean style. Inside the open-plan living and dining room, vaulted ceilings and handmade furniture from Honduras are classically tropical and utterly comfortable. Though chef service is included, there is a fully equipped kitchen as well. Dramatic scenery, palm-fringed beaches and surprising attractions like restorative mud baths make St. Lucia a wonderful destination for an off-the-beaten-path family vacation or a honeymoon away from it all.
