Street Food & Secrets w/an Archaeologist

Rome, Italy

Experience hosted by Selene

  1. 2 hours
  2. Hosted in English and Italian

What you'll do

If you are searching for a unique experience that combines Food, History and Secret Places in the oldest District of Rome, this is the experience for you.

Rione Monti is a quiet treasure, very close to the Colosseum and Forum, but completely off the beaten paths.

Being all archeologists, while tastings great food we will take a "time machine" together, showing you amazing little details around the area, secret passages and hidden ruins that talk about the daily life of 2000 years of history.

As Romans do, we will start with an amazing espresso in one of the last “Torrefazione” (coffee roasting) of the city.

We will then jump in the smallest local market of the city center and see where Romans buy their daily products.

Out off the beaten paths, we will taste some amazing cheeses and salami from a tiny grocery of the area.

The experience will continue with a typical Roman street food mix: crunchy pizza and fried snack.

To end the experience, we will taste the best gelato of the neighborhood, prepared with fresh ingredients following the traditional family recipe.

Additional information:
- The tastings can vary depending on the availability of fresh and season products. The above description is meant to provide an idea of the experience, not to list exactly all the tastings.

- The visit of the Local market depends on the opening time and might not be always available

Roma
Among the most picturesque districts of Rome, there undoubtedly is the Rione Monti, that - more than any others - has maintained that authentic atmosphere described in the film "La dolce vita" by Federico Fellini. You'll find yourself walking around the narrow lanes characterised by the ever-present cobblestones, surrounded by elegant buildings and shops with old and worn signs.

Manuela was fantastic! She showed us the real Rome, places we never would have found by ourselves. She gave us lots of cultural tips and helped us understand Italian culture beyond tourist hotspots. You really can’t say you have done Rome without a tour with Manuela!!

A very nice tour in a charming area. Selene was a good guide :) She gave us historical and archaeological information of the area (and of Rome) with details which you would never discover on your own. We had tastings along teh way and had a little plastic drinking bottle as a gift to fill up with fresh water up from the 'nasoni' , the small drinking fountains found in Rome. The tour can be highly recommended.

We’ve done a lot of food tours through our travels but this was one of the very best, not because of the food (which was great btw) but because the knowledge and enthusiasm of our host Chiara! She was the best

Our guide was Chiara and she was fantastic. I really enjoyed the various food stops and the historical information. We also had a very nice group of people to share this fun experience with. I highly recommend this experience!

This is a great way to see and learn about this section of Rome. Felt like we were popping in on local secret places and got to taste local favorites

The walk was just great! Our guide Chiara is a very good storyteller! I really enjoyed it. There were more facts about food than about archeology, but who does not like food:) I totally recommend it!
