History and Architecture with a local

Mexico City, Mexico

Experience hosted by Raúl

  1. 4 hours
  2. Hosted in English, Spanish, and French

What you'll do

We will visit the most important buildings and places that define the History and Architecture of Downtown Mexico City, which, until the late XIXth Century, used to be the entire town. Throughout our walk, we will find different museums, stores, plazas, parks, cultural centers, restaurants and even a glorious post office that you definitely have to pinmap to visit afterwards!. All these places represent different layers of history and of our culture.

It sounds crazy, but in the same district we will find such different buildings of many eras and styles: aztec, plateresque, colonial, baroque, neoclassicism, neomoorish, neogothic, eclecticism, art nouveau, art déco, streamline and, of course, the muralist movement, that merged architecture and painting together.

This experience is perfect if you want to get to know what to do, where to go and how to move around in Mexico City while you learn about our History, Architecture and Culture.

*We will have a coffee break in the middle so that we can stretch our legs!

**Je parle français aussi.

Welcome to Mexico and enjoy the city! :)

Hello, everyone! This is Raúl.

I come from northern Mexico and have lived in this wonderful City for over a decade now. My first language is Spanish and I speak English and French fluently. I also speak German B1.2 and Italian B1.

I have a degree in Design and Visual Communication, therefore I have good knowledge in Art History, Architecture, and Mexican History. Experiencing and getting to know the city with friends and family has given me the special perspective of a tourist who became a local.

I love travelling and enjoying different cities, countries, languages, cuisines, and getting to know new people who have the same interests.

I highly recommend you take this tour. Raúl is not only your new friend in CDMX, he is also an encyclopedia of Mexico City’s history and architecture. His tour helps you interact with iconic architectural landmarks so you can literally see the history of this old, rich city come to life. You will come out of this tour feeling so much more connected to the places you visit here in Mexico City. Enjoy!!

I couldn't recommend this tour enough if you are interested in both history or architecture. Raúl was such a lovely host and we learned so much from him! Our only regret was not doing this earlier in out trip to get better bearings on the city.

I spent a really enjoyable 3 1/2 hour with Raul who showed me around in the historic center of the city. It was way more done a simple sightseeing with a well-informed guide, he rather told tales in a really-really interesting way with deep knowledge about the topic. sometimes he just highlighted something, just so I really want to go back and see for myself deeper, other times he went really into the details to give her full picture. The only downside was the enormous amount of information, that I’m still processing…. But honestly it’s not a downside at all :-) I can absolutely recommend the tour to anyone who wants to get deep knowledge in a very interesting way!

Raúl was great, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Mexico City’s history and architecture. I ended up only being able to stay for the first half (it’s a 4-hr tour) and hope to learn more from Raúl next time I return to the city.

I enjoyed this tour! It's the perfect way of getting to know the city. It was like stepping into a storybook and Raul is a very enthusiastic storyteller, you can see that he loves this city very much. Now I will be walking in the streets of Mexico and will look at the surroundings in a different way :) Very much recommended! Thank you for an awesome tour Raul :)

Raul had a deep knowledge of architectural styles and historical art forms and he was extremely friendly and warm. We appreciated that he took us on as 5 people and we all agreed that our side chats with Raul about Mexico's history added a great deal to the day. Seeing Centro without a guide is hectic and Raul always managed to steer us away from crowds. Thanks Raul!
