What you'll do

As soon as you arrive, you will be provided with safety equipment required for the adventure. We will hike through the forest for about an hour and a half observing parts of the Second biggest radio telescope in the world, the Arecibo Observatory, between limestone formations and a unique forest. The hike requires good physical condition. After the trail, we will reach the river full of limestone formations and springs & small waterfalls. Then we hike next to the river giving you the opportunity to relax floating down stream passing natural limestone formations. A new trail will be followed--observing natural sinkholes and other limestone formations. This experience will be unique since you will be far from the beaten path & in full contact with nature. The hike guides you through ancient Taino paths that used to connect the ocean and the mountains. The trekking takes over in the Tanama River in a remote private access giving you the experience that most travelers search when they want an authentic adventure. The view of the Tanama river while you hike through this amazing place will make unforgettable memories. The adventure will be interpreted and a guide we will be with you the entire time. We will also immortalize memories for free with cameras and guide you through the best hike in the island.

If you’re looking for an adventure that’s going to take you out of your comfort zone look no further. I would do this again in a heart bit! Guides were amazing, funny and knowledgeable !

If you’re thinking about doing this- DO IT. This is the one you want. I can’t believe how amazing it was! The best thing I’ve done all trip. (And amazing photos for memories!) If you’re worried that it’s too physically challenging- I haven’t exercised almost at all in the last 2 years (let’s blame COVID…), and it was an enjoyable level of exertion with lots of breaks for looking around and learning. On the way back you’ll do a lot of gliding down the river- nothing too strenuous. Most of the challenges are mental- which makes it exciting! Though it has elements that feel like they could be dangerous, the guides are attentive, careful, and clearly know the route like the back of their hands. Honestly, we couldn’t have gotten a better tour! My advice would be to wear light, long pants and sleeves if you have them- particularly in the winter months. The helmets and life jackets do add a little bit of warmth though.

This was an amazing outing with breathtaking, caverns, caves, waterfalls, and rivers. I would recommend wearing layers, dark cloths that you don’t mind getting a little dirty, and sneakers with good tread that you don’t mind getting wet. Jose knew a ton about the island and gave us so much information, not just about what we were seeing but other places to go. Enjoy!

It's a fun experience! You definitely will be wet and chilly so I recommend bringing hiking shoes that are also made for being submerged - a full moisture wicking outfit with shorts, and a moisture wicking jacket/wet suit style jacket. It's a bit slower paced than I expected, interspersed with a lot of history and anecdotes - more educational than I truly was expecting. If you're in reasonably good health and shape you'll find the physical exertion relatively minor. The hard part is maneuvering through the water back to land to rock back to water lol. I'd love to do more adventures with this guy including a more physically challenging one in the future! The mountains of Puerto Rico is where the magic of the island is at (meh the beach) and this guy knows his stuff.
