What you'll do

Each person gets 1 hour on the wheel! This experience is 2 hours for 2 people

The first 5 minutes of class I will give you a brief tour of Everett Station Lofts. I will then take you upstairs to the my shared art studios loft. You will get access to a local Portland artists’ studio and a chance to see behind the scenes of the artists’ process as well as works in progress. What is unique about this space is all of the residents are practicing artists. There is a very interesting community here with a lot of cool people. It is a great space to get a peek into the Portland art scene.

I will start the instruction by explaining the main principles of wheel throwing technique using visual aids. We will then move into the practical instruction. I will instruct you on centering the clay on the wheel, using the coning technique to prep the clay, and finally pulling the clay into its final form. You will have enough time to make between 1-2 pieces depending on what you choose to create. Some great first project ideas include: mug, bowl, etc. You might get muddy! Each students get 1 hour of instruction time.

There is a strong culture of collaboration and support at Everett, and this class is no different! Come with a strong vision in mind or we can create something unique together! The goal of this class is for you to leave with a solid knowledge of beginner wheel throwing technique

I am utterly obsessed with ceramics and sculpture. Sculpting something from a lump of clay with your own hands that you use in your daily life is a very special thing to experience. I have about eight years of experience working with ceramics. I have also taught wheel throwing lessons and glazing lessons in Austin, Texas. My brand, Party Boy Provisions, focuses on ceramics smokeware and I also sell functional ceramics such as mugs, bowls, etc among other art that I create.

This was a super fun experience for my significant other and I. Abigail was very patient with us as it was our first time doing any sort of clay work and pottery. The tips given to us were super helpful. Even though Abigail had to help us throughout the whole process, it didn’t feel overbearing and we still felt like we accomplished it ourselves! Would highly recommend!

Abigail was the best!!! My partner & I are thrilled that she was our first instructor because she was so calm, comforting, and knowledgeable when it came to techniques, shapes, tools, etc. She also has the kindest soul and extremely easy to talk to. There’s honestly nothing that I would change from my experience!! We love Abigail!!!

This was a fantastic experience! Abigail truly has a gift for teaching and was incredibly helpful. We had never used a pottery wheel before, but Abigail walked us through it every step of the way. You won't regret doing this experience!

This experience was amazing. I came to the class with my wife for my birthday and right away the space has a calming, artistic vibe. Pottery is something I have always wanted to do and not only was Scout patient, kind and welcoming but really made us feel like this was something we could approach and not be intimidated. Would definitely do this experience again! Thanks for igniting our love for the wheel!
