El Yunque Rainforest Hiking to Waterfall

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Experience hosted by Narayan

  1. 6 hours

What you'll do

I only pick-up guests staying in Old San Juan, Puerta de Tierra, Condado, Miramar, Santurce, Calle Loiza, and Isla Verde areas. If you are staying elsewhere, please meet me at our pick-up location by 8:45am at the Hyatt Place, Miramar on the day of your experience.

This experience visits the rainforest where you will hike in a virgin setting. The trail leads to a waterfall with a great volume of water. You can also swim here. Similar experiences claim off the beaten path status, but I have worked for 15 years doing those locations. No one else is visiting this place. I will pick you up at your location and I will provide commentary on Puerto Rico’s culture, current affairs, and our history throughout the drive.

Once at my location we will continue with information on our forest and its diversity. The trail consists of an initial gentle sloping terrain (10 minutes) with another more inclined terrain (20 minutes) down to the waterfall. At the riverbed you will find pools and a tall rock face. A truly majestic waterfall will be visible immediately as you enter the clearing from under the canopy.

After this activity we will visit a local family restaurant for an authentic Puerto Rican lunch.

I want to get to know every one of you and hope that we can find the links that connect us. Please travel Puerto Rico with me so that we may each add a page into the book of our lives.

My name is Narayan, I was born and raised here in Puerto Rico - The Island of Enchantment. I am from the mountains just south of San Juan, growing up in the countryside was an absolute adventure. We had views of the almighty Atlantic Ocean all about my neighborhood, I could even spot the takeoff and landing of airplanes. A favorite hobby of mine is to search and find places I did not know about (we have a lot to offer). I also enjoy playing basketball and discussing it too.

I operate out of San Juan and as stated earlier, the countryside was an important component of my upbringing. I continue being passionate about the outdoors, specially visiting and exploring our rivers. This geographical area allows me to interact with my guests in the setting I prefer.

I have scouted this special location. The place is little known to locals and you will surely enjoy the level of privacy you've come to expect from the best Airbnb experiences.
You will walk a trail along hardwood trees and passion fruit vines. Birds will be heard and soon the sound of the waterfall will fill the atmosphere completely.
The early terrain is gentle and later more challenging. It's an enjoyable 30 - 45 minutes off the beaten path.

Wow what an awesome experience! Took a scenic drive to a beautiful view of San Juan and the ocean, then went into the rainforest on a trail literally blazed by Narayan himself. The waterfall at the end was such a treat, and we had a blast swimming in the natural pool and jumping off the rocks. Didn’t run into a single other tourist group once! Narayan was very knowledgeable about the species in the rainforest and had us entertained the whole time. Afterwards we stopped at an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant for lunch that was vegetarian friendly. Pickup and drop off were right in front of our Airbnb. Highly recommend!

Don’t think twice, book this!!! It was so special. This was so incredible and unique compared to most tours I’ve done. Narayan and his wife were great and can tell put so much thought into this and you can definitely feel the magic touch! The hike was not bad at all and the waterfall and swimming hole was a perfect way to enjoy El Yunque. Book now!!!

Narayan and Lismar were wonderful hosts! They picked us up right from our hotel, taught us about the island and the flora and fauna in El Yunque, and guided us to a beautiful, secluded spot. Lismar also gave us lots of recommendations for places to go in the neighborhood we stayed in. Would absolutely recommend this tour!

We really enjoyed this El Yunque hike to this secret waterfall. He provided transportation and took us to a meal at the end of the hike (you pay for this). Nonetheless, we enjoyed the entire experience (ride, hike and food)! My favorite part was swimming near the waterfall. We also learned a lot about Puerto Rico and it’s history. I would highly recommend going on this experience!

This hiking tour of the rainforest was great! I appreciated being picked up at our Airbnb and then taken to the adventure. It was a long day so bring snacks and make sure you don’t have plans at a certain time because it’s worth the day!

Lovely experience from start to finish. Guides were extremely knowledgable and passionate about Puerto Rico. The hike was beautiful and secluded. We didn’t run into any other groups. It felt like a path made just for us! The swimming experience was great. Narayan helped us jump off the rocks and overall kept everyone feeling safe and comfortable in the water. The guides even took the time to learn everyone’s names. They were patient with the different skill levels and abilities during the hike and took great care of everyone. The local stops we made were excellent and it was nice to purchase items from the local communities whose roads we were using. The food stop was AMAZING! Definitely get what Lismar recommends! Lismar and Narayan are also an adorable couple who work seamlessly together
