What you'll do

Together we will explore the local market, it's the best place to start as we'll be collecting ingredients for our dishes.
As we walk the halls and streets of the market district you'll learn all about the produce we are so proud of in Greece as well as meeting some of the traders and catching up on the local gossip...

Now it's time to cook! This is a hands-on experience so we'll prep our food before getting on with the class. Your cook will guide you through the dishes, give you tips that could help improve your skills and tell you stories about what you're making, what's going on in Athens and of course, their thoughts on many other things in the world!

Your menu is:
Dolmades: Vine leaves filled with meat and herb-infused rice

Spanakopita: Spinach and feta pies wrapped up in pastry

Tzatziki: Greek yoghurt infused with garlic, cucumber and herbs, the most famous of all the Greek dips

Imam Baildi: Roasted eggplants topped with a sweet/sour feta sauce

Portokalopita: A sticky, soft orange "pie" made from phyllo pastry, oranges and cinnamon

We'll serve you your meal, so you can relax, enjoy your food with a glass of local wine or a beer followed by a serving of Greek digestive liquor to help it all down
Other things to note

We love food, it's been our lives for as long as we can remember. A group of friends who've grown up in homes around Greece where we've spent time with family members in the kitchen preparing meals throughout the year for the people we love. Many of our families are producers and famers so local produce, quality ingredients and fresh flavours are entwined with the dishes that we make; recipes that have been shared from generation to generation.
Moving on from home but always staying connected and visiting regularly we've worked professionally in hotel kitchens and restaurants before coming together to create The Greek Kitchen, here in the heart of Athens; right beside the central market, the beating heart of the city where we have access to all the ingredients we love to create the best Greek dishes possible.

We had a great time. Our host Vasia was perfect. She seemed to be able to turn even a funural into a party.

Great food! Vasia took us to the market and let us get a bunch of groceries, negotiating a great price and showing us amazing produce. We all left stuffed and with extras

Simple and perfect! We started with a quick visit to the market, just a block from the classroom, and the hosts had chosen a menu that worked for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. The dishes were simple ingredients, barely for than 6 per dish — and they were amazing. We prepared almost more that we could eat, and it was delicious. The time frame was perfect — we didn’t feel rushed, but were always actively involved. With four dishes, a dessert, and then a local wine included, this was a great value. It’s centrally located and VERY easy to find — a MUST DO!

My brother and I had so much fun cooking and eating Greek food in this class! The market visit was informative and the dishes were flavorful and hands-on. Nothing was too difficult to make so I look forward to recreating it all when I return home. Thank you for having us!

Everyone else is a meat eater except for this one other girl, so naturally we paired together. Crowd was a bit big for my liking as I assumed 4 booked on airbnb so it is capped, we had 14 in our class, I guessed others booked from their website directly. The recipes we cooked were mostly vegetarian anyway except for Dolmades which have ground meat, ours was omitted and the teacher takes good care of that so the vegetarian feels comfortable. I cooked a lot and I managed to learn a few tips and tricks so all in all, I'd say it was fun worthy experience I would recommend to othwrs

Vasia was funny and accommodating! Her dry sense of humor was a breath of fresh air compared to our quiet groupmates. The meal was delicious and the recipes were simple and easy to follow. Would recommend!
