Ciudad de México, Mexico

Animal experience hosted by Marisol

  1. 13 hours
  2. Hosted in English and Spanish

What you'll do

Just available from November to March

The butterflies make a long journey from the forests of Canada to our warm country Mexico to reproduce and preserve their species.

We'll visit the beautiful forests to admire a show full of color and magic.

Millions of monarch butterflies cover the barks of trees and flutter happily to mate, no doubt an event you can't miss!

Live the experience of being only a few inches from all butterflies.

We'll hike up the mountain to encounter the butterflies (About 1-hour hiking) or you can rent a horse to take you there.

After this adventure, we'll eat delicious Mexican homemade quesadillas (Included).

Once lived this incredible experience, we'll go to the magical town of Valle de Bravo with its incredible view of the lake, we'll visit a waterfall, the pier, and the charming center.

Photoshoot included!

---We'll pick you and drop you off at your Hotel or Airbnb

***The number of butterflies you can see flying depends on the weather, so take this into consideration because Monarchs love the sun but they hide if it's cloudy.

This was such a magical day! I loved each part - hiking through the woods with Jose and Minerva, seeing the butterflies, the waterfall, the sweet little town of Valle de Bravo. We had great conversations and I learned a lot about Mexico in general. Jose speaks great English and was very open and kind. Thank you all for a wonderful adventure!

The butterfly trip is totally worth it! And I loved how we had a gorgeous hike and seeing the butterflies is truly something special and magical. Our hosts didn’t know a lot about the migration, etc., but the guide we had at the reserve was very knowledgeable. The trip to Valle de Bravo really makes the trip even more worthwhile! It’s a place many Mexicans recommend and it was a great time to visit it coinciding with the trip the butterfly reserve.

This experience was phenomenal! Marisol and her sister Gaby were excellent guides. They made us feel comfortable to ask questions and they tailored the experience to what we were hoping to see. We had a perfect day for butterflies and saw a ton of them. The unexpected part was the authentic food experience, trying local authentic dishes. When I said I was interested in seeing the sunset in Valle De Bravo, Marisol suggested the perfect lookout spot. Everything was taken care of the whole day and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Can't say enough good about this trip!

This was an INCREDIBLE experience. Marisol (and her sister joined for the weekend) were both super hospitable, very knowledgeable about Mexico City, its traditions and surroundings. The actual day was packed with fun. We went to the monarch sanctuary - the hike was properly strenuous (not bad if you're usually active but definitely steep), and the monarch colonies were totally stunning. After this we want to a magic village where we hung out by the lake and saw an amazing sunset. The sites were cool but I have to say the food was the best I've had on my trip. We went to roadside barbacoa stand that had phenomenal homemade quesadillas. For dinner we went to a small market and had the best enchiladas I think I've ever had. This was such a good vibe of a trip, great value, and 100% would do again next time I'm in Mexico!

Magical trip into the mountains of Estado de Mexico to see the butterflies. On top of seeing the butterflies, which is a once in a lifetime experience, it was also nice to be able to see the Mexican countryside especially after spending time in Mexico City.

Was such a great experience. Enrique was knowledgeable and always made sure we were comfortable. Even though the butterflies reserve requires hiking Enrique ensured we were safe at all times. Will 100% do the tour again with them again when in Mexico.
