Prehispanic Shaman Renewal

México , Mexico

Experience hosted by Eréndira

  1. 5 hours
  2. Hosted in English and Spanish

What you'll do

Melt away stress in this Temazcal experience with a native healer and spiritual guide.

The sweat lodge is the setting for a 2,500-year-old ritual that uses a prehispanic technique (Mayan-Zapotec or Aztec, depending of the guide) to illuminate a pathway into your inner self and begin a rebirth of love in your soul.

You’ll enjoy freshly brewed herbal tea from a medicinal garden as you drink in teachings of Temazcal history. After applying aloe, salts and herbs to your body, you’ll listen to songs and wise words to calm the mind and breathe vapor from medicinal plants.
Other things to note
The duration of the experience inside the Temazcal may vary for the group or individuals, depending on how each person feels (usually about 1-2 hours).
Because there are sometimes many rituals per week the ritual is performed by different guides: Javier Moctezuma (Mexica descendant), Huitzi (zapotec Nahual), Luis Gómez or myself. Luis Gómez, Luis Belmonte or myself translate the ritual from spanish to english when its guided by Huitzi or Javier.
*The shamans have to travel to CDMX for this ritual, the logistics, expenses per person and planning that involve this ritual make it difficult for us to give full refunds when canceling less than 48 hours in advance. In case of covid, airbnb gives full refund.*

I'm an artist, biologist, and nature lover descendant of the Purepecha culture. I discovered the Temazcal ritual as a teenager on one of my trips to the rainforest in Veracruz, where I lived for 15 years. Since then, it has been part of my life, helping me reconect with my prehispanic roots and providing me with guidance in times of doubt and sorrow, as well as relaxation. After moving back to the city some years ago, I met my teachers who brought Temazcal into my life again. It has become a way to pamper myself inside and out. My mission is to help people reconnect with nature and their higher selves, that's why I serve as a translator of my masters and sometimes as a guide in this ritual.
I co-host this experience with Luis B. & my masters; Huitzi, Javier and Luis G., their apprentice and who is also a guide and translator.

We will go to the Temazcal named “Tonantzin”—our mother. It stands on a natural oasis in Mexico City, surrounded by urban crops, flowers and a medicinal garden. It's the perfect place to escape.

A beautiful experience! The guide and the shaman both excellent, the experience unforgotten. Please note: this is not simply a spa! The experience can be intense, be prepared.

Wonderful experience. I would suggest bringing plenty of water and hydrating well before the experience. The Temazcal gets very hot and you'll sweat it all out. Near the end of the experience I wasn't sure if I would make it through the entire ceremony (so hot and exhausted), but I persevered. You'll be sharing your thoughts and intentions with the other attendees while inside (in complete darkness), and guided by a very knowledgeable shaman (ours was Luis). I highly recommend this experience, but do take care of yourself as it can be agonizing at times.

The tour was awesome! DiDi & Rose are great hostesses who planned a well thought out day. Highly recommend exploring Xochimilco with them!

Luis was fantastic. This is a good introduction to Temazcal. If you have higher levels of consciousness you might be put off/distracted by the company of someone else attending who can’t tell the difference between Temazcal and Mezcal. But the experience, location and hosts are wonderful.
