My place is good for couples, business travellers, and families (with kids). Thornton Cottage is in Royal Deeside. Aberdeen city centre for shopping and entertainment is 10 miles away, while the beach front and promenade are two miles further on. Heading West from the top of the track takes you to Banchory ( seven miles) for local shopping and then on to Braemar and the beautiful mountains of the Cairngorms. There are castles and golf courses on the doorstep. Drum Castle is walkable up the hill.
